Two dominant signal callers in Derek Garcia and Logan Moon are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Ventura Cougars are taking a road trip to take on the Moorpark Musketeers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Ventura is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Buena 62-13 on Friday. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Tristan Savage was his usual excellent self, picking up 86 receiving yards and two scores, while also punching in a pair of TDs on the ground. That's the most receiving touchdowns he has posted since back in September of 2024. Jack Cunningham did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 127 receiving yards.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Ventura proved: they limited Buena to a paltry 2.2 yards per carry. The team can thank Jordan Butcher for the heroic effort on defense: he. Ventura is a perfect 3-0 when they shut down the run game so well.
Meanwhile, Moorpark made easy work of Oak Park on Friday and carried off a 52-27 win. The Musketeers pushed the score to 52-21 by the end of the third, a deficit the Eagles cut but never quite recovered from.
The match pitted two dominant signal callers against one another in Moon and Grayson Auzat. Moon had a great game and rushed for 90 yards and one touchdown on only nine carries. Meanwhile, Auzat was balling out in the loss, rushing for 36 yards and one TD, while also throwing for 139 yards and one touchdown.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Moorpark, adding 22 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Payton Sustin, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Ventura's record is now 4-2. As for Moorpark, their record now sits at 6-0.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Ventura has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 168.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Moorpark struggles in that department as they've been averaging 176.7 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Ventura barely slipped by Moorpark in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, winning 36-35. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
