Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in prep girls basketball. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2023-24 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Maddy McDaniel of
Bishop McNamara (Forestville) is the 2023-24 Maryland MaxPreps Player of the Year for the second straight season. The 5-foot-8 senior point guard led the Mustangs to a 28-5 record and private school state championship.
For the season, McDaniel averaged 17.9 points, 5.0 assists, 4.7 steals and 3.5 rebounds per game. She posted a season-high 26 points in games against Sacred Heart (Louisville, Ky.) in January and Good Counsel (Olney) in February.

WIth McDaniel in the lead, Bishop McNamara beat teams from eight states and the District of Columbia this season. She has helped the program notch three straight 20-win seasons.
Regarded as a top 25 prospect in the Class of 2024, McDaniel signed with South Carolina in November.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which is scheduled to be released April 11. Past selections include 2023 WNBA Most Valuable Player Breanna Stewart (2012) as well as 2023 All-WNBA first team picks Napheesa Collier (2015), Alyssa Thomas (2010) and A'ja Wilson (2014).
