The Phoenix Christian Cougars won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Monday. They took a serious blow against Glendale Prep Academy, falling 55-25. While losing is never fun, Phoenix Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 210th, while the Griffins are ranked 74th).
Glendale Prep Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Senna Smith, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Smith hasn't dropped below ten rebounds for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Caspers, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds.
Phoenix Christian dropped their record down to 6-13 with that loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 25.8 points per game. As for Glendale Prep Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season.
Coincidentally, Phoenix Christian and the Griffins will both be playing the Spartans the next time they take the court. Glendale Prep Academy will host Northland Prep Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, while Phoenix Christian will head out to face them at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
