Baseball Recap: Isle of Wight Academy Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Greenbrier Christian Academy, Isle of Wight Academy was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Broadwater Academy Vikings 6-5. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Chargers also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Jake Wells made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Logan Springle was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Jason Chapman, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

The victory got Isle of Wight Academy back to even at 1-1. As for Broadwater Academy, their loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Isle of Wight Academy will head out to challenge Norfolk Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Broadwater Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Chincoteague at 4:00 p.m. on March 26th.
