Mainland had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They secured a 19-14 W over the Cocoa Tigers on Friday. For the Buccaneers, this counts as revenge for the 51-0 win the Tigers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in August of 2024.

Sebastian Johnson was a one-man wrecking crew as he threw for 270 yards and three TDs. Braylyn Simmons was Johnson's top target, picking up 21 receiving yards.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Mainland proved: they limited Cocoa to a paltry 2.7 yards per carry. The Buccaneers didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.2.

When it comes to explaining why Cocoa lost, don't look at Tank White. Despite the final result, he picked up 103 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Champ Smith was another key player, having thrown for 280 yards and onetouchdown.

Cocoa's loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Looking ahead, Mainland will face off against Flagler Palm Coast at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Cocoa, they will challenge Vero Beach at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
