Baseball Recap: Clark Has No Trouble Against Southwest SD

Clark saw some tournament action on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 13-6 margin over the Southwest SD Raiders. The Chargers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by six runs or more this season.

Bryan Humes made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Humes was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kellen Anunson, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Clark's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-6 when he doesn't). Drew Hernandez was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Clark always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .565. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

Clark is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Southwest SD, their loss dropped their record down to 7-3-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clark will head out to square off against Francis Parker at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Southwest SD, they will venture away from home to challenge Ramona at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
