Basketball Recap: Hartsville Comes Up Short

Hartsville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a 73-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lakewood Gators. The Red Foxes were down 60-40 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Despite the loss, Hartsville still got an impressive performance from Tristian Spann, who went 6 for 14 on his way to 18 points and eight boards. The dominant performance gave Spann a new career-high in rebounds. Antuan Segars was another key player, putting up eight points.

Even though they lost, Hartsville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lakewood only pulled down four offensive rebounds.

Lakewood had a senior duo take command as Pop Cato went 8 of 11 en route to 23 points and Darius Franklin dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten boards. The game was Cato's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cedric Cisse, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 11 points and three steals.

Hartsville's defeat dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Lakewood, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-8.

Hartsville and Hannah-Pamplico will face off at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Hannah-Pamplico is coming into the matchup with three straight losses on the road, meaning Hartsville will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win. As for Lakewood, they and Calhoun County will face off at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Calhoun County will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Lakewood surely won't give up without a fight.
