Basketball Recap: Make It Seven in a Row for Mahpiya Luta

Mahpiya Luta put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 78-34 win over the Custer Wildcats. Fans of the Crusaders have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.

Mahpiya Luta was led to victory by Ashlan Carlow-Blount and Mya Mills. Carlow-Blount almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine boards, while Mills went 7 of 13 on her way to 19 points and six steals. Carlow-Blount has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 32 times she's played. Abigail Haas was another key player, putting up nine points and six rebounds.

Mahpiya Luta smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in ten consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Mahpiya Luta pushed their record up to 7-0 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.3 points per game. As for Custer, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Mahpiya Luta will challenge Todd County at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Custer, they will head out to face off against Newcastle at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
