Newsome is 9-1 against Durant since March of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Wolves will host the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. Newsome's pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so Durant's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Newsome and Alonso, and Newsome kept the tradition alive. The Wolves put the hurt on the Ravens with a sharp 12-1 win on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Wolves in their matchups with the Ravens: they've now won three in a row.
Newsome got a massive performance out of Arriana N Williams, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. What's more, Williams posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Bella Gulle, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.
Newsome always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .630. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Durant fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Gaither on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cowboys by a score of 3-2. That's two games in a row now that the Cougars have lost by just one run.
Leanne Allen spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits.
On the hitting side, Gabrielle Langston made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run.
Newsome's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Durant, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-7.
Newsome beat Durant 4-1 in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Wolves repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
