Gray Collegiate Academy took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Legion Collegiate Academy Lancers 3-2. That's more bragging rights for the War Eagles, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.
Riley Huggins made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Huggins wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cole Adams, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gray Collegiate Academy will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Fort Mill at 11:00 a.m. on March 8th. As for Legion Collegiate Academy, they are taking a road trip to face off against Palisades at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games Legion Collegiate Academy has played (dating back to last season) have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
