Providence Grove is 9-1 against Wheatmore since January of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. Providence Grove is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Eastern Randolph on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Providence Grove was dealt an 89-62 loss at the hands of Eastern Randolph. The Patriots haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Providence Grove might have lost, but man, Will Dabbs was a machine: he went 9-for-18 en route to 26 points and seven rebounds. Stephen Beeson was another key player, putting up seven points and nine boards.
Meanwhile, Wheatmore hadn't done well against Uwharrie Charter Academy recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Wheatmore strolled past Uwharrie Charter Academy with points to spare, taking the game 63-46. With that win, the Warriors brought their scoring average up to 50.2 points per game.
Wheatmore had a senior duo take command as Parker Kines went 10-for-15 to rack up 25 points and five rebounds and Wyatt Stepp went 6-for-11 on his way to 22 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Kines has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Caleb Coggins, who posted two points and seven boards.
Wheatmore was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Uwharrie Charter Academy only racked up eight assists.
Wheatmore's victory bumped their record up to 10-14. As for Providence Grove, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-13.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Providence Grove has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Wheatmore struggles in that department as they've been averaging 23.5 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
