Clayton is 1-0 against Willow Spring since October of 2022, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Clayton Comets will head out on the road to face off against the Willow Spring Storm at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Clayton has six straight victories, Willow Spring has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Friday, Clayton got themselves on the board against Corinth Holders, but Corinth Holders never followed suit. They breezed by the Pirates on the road to the tune of 44-0. The result was nothing new for Clayton, who have now won five games by 25 points or more so far this season.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 45-14, which was the final score in Willow Spring's tilt against South Garner on Friday. While losing is never fun, Willow Spring can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 202nd, while South Garner is ranked 98th).
Despite their defeat, Willow Spring saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Chayson Ingram-gray, who threw for 193 yards and two touchdowns, was perhaps the best of all.
Clayton's win bumped their season record to 7-1 while Willow Spring's loss dropped theirs to 3-5.
Everything came up roses for Clayton against Willow Spring when the teams last played back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 63-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Clayton since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
