The Montini Catholic Broncos will take on the St. Francis de Sales Pioneers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Montini Catholic suffered their biggest defeat since December 1, 2023 on Tuesday. Their tough 63-42 loss to DePaul College Prep might stick with them for a while. Montini Catholic has not had much luck with DePaul College Prep recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Meanwhile, St. Francis de Sales pushed their score all the way to 64 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a hard 79-64 fall against De La Salle. While losing is never fun, St. Francis de Sales can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 378th, while De La Salle is ranked 67th).
Despite their loss, St. Francis de Sales saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jerimiya Sims, who scored 23 points along with two steals, was perhaps the best of all. Sims is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Micheal Woods, who scored 16 points along with three steals.
Montini Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 7-14. As for St. Francis de Sales, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season.
Montini Catholic couldn't quite finish off St. Francis de Sales when the teams last played back in December of 2022 and fell 46-43. Can Montini Catholic avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
