Football Recap: Costa Mesa Piles Up the Points Against La Quinta

While Costa Mesa put up plenty of points on Thursday, the same can't be said for La Quinta. The Mustangs claimed a resounding 42-0 win over the Aztecs. Considering the Mustangs have won eight games by more than 22 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Costa Mesa was led to victory by Gavin Garza and Andrew Waiss. Garza gained 194 total yards and three touchdowns, while Waiss threw for 171 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes. Garza's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his sixth straight game with at least 124 rushing yards.

Costa Mesa was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 209 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 185 rushing yards in 14 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Costa Mesa pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 8.0 points on average over those games. As for La Quinta, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5-1.
