The Soddy Daisy Trojans will head out on the road to challenge the Upperman Bees at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Soddy Daisy barely beat Hixson the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Trojans were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Wildcats on Tuesday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 1, 2024, but that streak is no more.
Brodie Haynes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on ten hits.
On the hitting side, Easton Mulder was a standout: he went 4-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Brayden Maynor was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Soddy Daisy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Tuesday Upperman sidestepped Livingston Academy for a 2-1 win. That's two games straight that the Bees have won by just one run.
Upperman also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and he was also dialed-in: Chris Wirsing gave up a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up 13 Ks. Wirsing has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Upperman's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Braden Green, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Upperman is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Soddy Daisy, their record now sits at 10-7.
Soddy Daisy's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's matchup. The Trojans have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Upperman, though, as they've been averaging only 0.6 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Soddy Daisy continue to outrun the ball?
