There's no place like home for the Sapulpa Chieftains, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Saturday. They walked away with a 51-40 win over Memorial on Tuesday. Given Sapulpa's advantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while Memorial is ranked 258th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sapulpa was led to victory by Riki Mcquarters and Tyla Heard. Mcquarters scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals, while Heard scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and five assists. Heard also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Bilby, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
Memorial lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Asia Roper, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Roper has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Mataya Hall, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Memorial struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Sapulpa racked up 12 assists.
Sapulpa's win was their 14th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.7 points per game. As for Memorial, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sapulpa will challenge Edison at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Memorial, they will head out on the road to take on Durant at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
