Basketball Recap: Marion Takes a Loss

Marion was the 109-104 winner over Kokomo when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Giants fell just short of the Wildkats by a score of 71-68 on Friday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (67), the Giants still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Marion still got an impressive performance from Tim Jones, who posted 28 points along with five assists and three steals. The matchup was Jones' seventh in a row with at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cris'Shawn Guerrero, who shot 56% from the field on his way to 14 points and three steals.

Kokomo's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but D.J. Nash led the charge by dropping a double-double with 20 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Nash a new career-high in assists (six). Korbyn Hammel was another key player, shooting 4-for-6 from downtown and almost dropping a double-double with 21 points and nine boards.

Marion's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Kokomo, the win keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Marion wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 76-53 loss against Huntington North on the 20th. As for Kokomo, they have also already played their next contest, a 68-48 defeat against Carmel on the 20th.
