The Clovis Christian Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Carrizozo Grizzlies at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Clovis Christian will be strutting in after a victory while Carrizozo will be coming in after a defeat.
Even though Clovis Christian has not done well against Plainview Christian recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Clovis Christian blew past Plainview Christian, posting a 44-6 victory on the road. Clovis Christian's win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Clovis Christian found their leader in underclassman Hannah McKay, who scored 13 points along with 4 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which McKay has scored at least 25% of Clovis Christian's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jalisa Raney, who scored 8 points along with 8 rebounds and 5 steals.
Meanwhile, Carrizozo ended up a good deal behind Cloudcroft on Tuesday and lost 39-25. Carrizozo has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite their loss, Carrizozo saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Bryana Villanueva, who scored 9 points along with 6 rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Villanueva scored a full 36% of Carrizozo's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Amalia Gabaldon was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with 5 rebounds.
Clovis Christian's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Carrizozo, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.
