Salida is 1-9 against Manitou Springs since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Spartans will be playing at home against the Mustangs at 11:00 a.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Saturday.
Salida is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Florence a 20-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Huskies recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Scout Presley was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Salida is undefeated when Presley allows one or fewer hits, but 2-4 otherwise. Presley was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Anthony Taverna, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Canin Becker, who went 2-for-4 with five RBI, one run, and one double.
Salida always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Manitou Springs was not the first on the board last Wednesday, but they got there more often. They blew past Peyton 11-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.
Cooper Frojen made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Frojen was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Hayden Martinez was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Ashur Lavigne was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Manitou Springs picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 3-6. As for Salida, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
