Football Recap: Hartfield Academy Piles Up the Points Against Heritage Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hartfield Academy). They blew past the Heritage Academy Patriots 49-21 on Friday. The Hawks haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hartfield Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Collin McIntyre, who rushed for 170 yards and a pair of TDs on only 14 carries. McIntyre also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because the Hawks are 2-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 1-4 otherwise. Another signal caller making a difference was Ethan Elliott, who threw for 241 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.1 yards per attempt.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Hartfield Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 268 rushing yards. They are a perfect 3-0 when they've run for more than 200 yards.

Another reason for the win was Hartfield Academy's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Coleman Yoder, Peyton Trigg, and Riley Dukes, who each picked up one sack apiece. Another thorn in Heritage Academy's side was Yoder, who picked up a sack and made six total tackles in addition to snagging an interception which he returned for a touchdown.

Hartfield Academy's record now sits at 3-5. As for Heritage Academy, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-2.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Hartfield Academy will square off against rival East Rankin Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 947 yards in their previous games. Meanwhile, Heritage Academy is set to challenge their familiar foe Starkville Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
