The Dunlap Eagles will take on the Limestone Rockets at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Dunlap is coming into the game hot, having won their last seven games.
Dunlap gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over Illinois Valley Central. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Davis Weeks, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryder Rennette, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Weeks wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Dunlap lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Tuesday Limestone sidestepped Deer Creek-Mackinaw for a 6-4 victory.
Bryce Chapman and Gavin Klecker did most of the damage at the plate: Chapman scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-3, while Klecker scored a run while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Klecker a new career-high in RBI (three).
Dunlap pushed their record up to 11-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Limestone, their win bumped their record up to 10-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Dunlap has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Limestone struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Dunlap was able to grind out a solid victory over Limestone in their previous matchup on Monday, winning 11-6. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Rockets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
