Baseball Recap: Midland Trail Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Midland Trail had lost four games straight , but after bumping their record up to 3-15 on Wednesday that streak is in the rearview. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Greenbrier West Cavaliers, sneaking past 9-7. Surprisingly, this marked the Patriots' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Midland Trail got a big performance out of Jamison Swafford, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs Swafford has posted over his last 11 contests. Hunter Amick also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Midland Trail kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in four consecutive games.

As for Greenbrier West, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 11 of their last 13 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss they have suffered since April 23rd.

On Greenbrier West's side, they saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Landen Doss, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Doss has become a key player for the Cavaliers: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-12 otherwise. Scott McClung was another, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Midland Trail will face off against James Monroe at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Greenbrier West, they will take on Summers County at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bobcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.81 runs per game on average), something the Cavaliers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
