The Thomas Jefferson Jaguars will head out on the road to take on the Baldwin Highlanders at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Thomas Jefferson is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 16 runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against Bethel Park on Monday. They fell just short of the Black Hawks by a score of 2-1.
Thomas Jefferson saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Olivia Stock, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Sophie Janosko also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, Baldwin made easy work of Connellsville on Tuesday and carried off a 20-5 victory. The result was nothing new for the Highlanders, who have now won six contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Avery Herrington was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriella Jaquay, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run.
Baldwin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .643. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Baldwin pushed their record up to 10-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games. As for Thomas Jefferson, their loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 4-4.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Thomas Jefferson hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Baldwin struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1.3 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Thomas Jefferson came up short against Baldwin when the teams last played two weeks ago, falling 3-0. Can the Jaguars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
