The Somerville Highlanders will face off against the Bourne Canalmen at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Somerville is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Revere just ended the team's five-match winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 3-2. While the Highlanders didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Patriots 25-17 in the first set.
Somerville wouldn't go down easily and took Revere into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking five-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 17-25, 25-23, 25-11, 20-25, 15-10.
Meanwhile, Bourne faced Duxbury in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Canalmen lost 3-0 to the Dragons. The Canalmen haven't had much luck with the Dragons recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Bourne was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Duxbury work for it, especially in the second set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 28-26, 25-20.
Somerville will have to keep a close watch on Avery Morrill and Michaela Muldoon, a pair of players who had a big impact on Bourne's prior game. Morrill had 17 digs, while Muldoon had six digs, two aces, and one block. Muldoon has been hot, having posted two or more aces the last seven times she's played.
Somerville's loss dropped their record down to 14-3. As for Bourne, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-2.
