Cambridge Springs (Pa.) jumped out to an early lead against
Maplewood (Guys Mills, Pa.) and never looked back on the way to a 21-0 victory on Saturday.
The Devils scored 14 points in the first quarter. Cambridge Springs scored on a
Zach Stafford touchdown run and a touchdown run by Stafford.
The lead that CS took on a Stafford touchdown run with 4:00 remaining in the first quarter stood up for the duration of the game, as neither team managed to score in the second half.
The Devils' standout player in the win was Stafford. The freshman running back ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored four touchdowns on the season.
Coming into the game Cambridge Springs had allowed 29.4 points per game this year. The defense really stepped up, holding the Tigers well below their season average of 14.9 points scored per game.
A 14-0 Cambridge Springs victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
The win was a nice bounce back for Cambridge Springs, which lost to Fort LeBoeuf last week, 39-12. Maplewood lost to Saegertown last week, 26-7.
In a District 10 Region 2 A game next week Cambridge Springs (3-5) takes on Mercyhurst Prep, and Maplewood (1-7) will go up against Cochranton also in a District 10 Region 2 A game.
