Softball Recap: Oak Lawn Continues Road Dominance on Monday

Oak Lawn won against Romeoville on Saturday with 12 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. The Spartans beat the Reavis Rams by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 12-2. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by seven runs or more this season.

Kaitlyn Berkery made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

In other batting news, Anaysa Salmon and Teagan Kryzstof did most of the damage at the plate: Salmon went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Kryzstof went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. Those three RBI gave Salmon a new career-high. Kamya Feigl was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Oak Lawn's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-12. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Reavis, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 17-16 record this season.

Oak Lawn and Reavis could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Spartans will take on Lemont at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (250 vs. 72). Meanwhile, Reavis (ranked 254th) will meet Shepard (ranked 55th) at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
