Springboro and Wayne are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2018, but not for long. The Springboro Panthers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wayne Warriors at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Saturday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Springboro beat Fairmont 48-43. Given Springboro's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while Fairmont is ranked 98th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Wayne waltzed into Saturday's game with two straight wins but they left with three. They came out on top against Northmont by a score of 48-36.
Wayne relied on the efforts of Imani Frazier, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Jonilyah Chambers, who scored 19 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which Chambers has scored at least 25% of Wayne's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgyn Rose, who scored 12 points.
Their wins bumped Springboro to 3-1 and Fairmont to 2-1.
Springboro took their victory against Wayne when the teams last played back in January by a conclusive 49-27. Will Springboro repeat their success, or does Wayne have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
