Lanier Christian Academy and Fideles Christian are an even 5-5 against one another since November of 2021, but not for long. Having just played yesterday, the Lanier Christian Academy Lightning will head out on the road to face off against the Fideles Christian Rangers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Lanier Christian Academy is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Valor Christian on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Lanier Christian Academy lost 64-42 to Valor Christian. While losing is never fun, the Lightning can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 312th, while the Lions are ranked 74th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Emma Flowers, who went 5 for 12 on her way to 12 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Adelyn Gough, who went 5 of 12 en route to 11 points.
Even though they lost, Lanier Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Fideles Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch last Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 81-13 loss at the hands of Valor Christian. The contest marked the Rangers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Lanier Christian Academy will have to contain Chloe Quinn as she made an impact in Fideles Christian's last game. She posted eight points and four steals. Quinn has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last three times she's played.
Fideles Christian's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Lanier Christian Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-9.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Lanier Christian Academy has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 30.8 boards per game. However, it's not like Fideles Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 22.6 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Lanier Christian Academy strolled past Fideles Christian when the teams last played back in December of 2024 by a score of 54-36. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lanier Christian Academy since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
