Baseball Recap: Gilbert Christian Snags Seventh Victory in Last Nine Games

Gilbert Christian saw some tournament action on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Idaho Falls Tigers. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won five matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

Gilbert Christian let Dane Coyle and Tyler Burr run wild. Coyle scored two runs while going 3-for-3, while Burr went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Gilbert Christian is 3-1 when Coyle posts three or more hits, but 4-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Zack Linker, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Gilbert Christian is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-6 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 10.33 hits in those games compared to only four in the others. Idaho Falls is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.

Looking ahead, Gilbert Christian will square off against San Tan Foothills at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. San Tan Foothills has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.36 runs per game on average), something Gilbert Christian will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Idaho Falls, they will take on Skyline at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
