Baseball Recap: Benton Central Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Benton Central had lost five straight, but after bumping their record up to 7-14 on Thursday that streak is in the rearview. They walked away with a 13-8 win over the Fountain Central Mustangs. That's more bragging rights for the Bison, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Grant Weise and Nolan Winkler did most of the damage at the plate: Weise went 3-for-5 with one home run, two RBI, and one double, while Winkler went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most hits Weise has posted since back in May of 2025. Rocky Ellis was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Benton Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

As for Fountain Central, they dropped their record down to 5-12 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. That's two games in a row now that they have lost by exactly five runs.

On Fountain Central's side, Ryan Mitchell and Joan Cervantes stepped up to the plate in a big way. Mitchell went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI, while Cervantes went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Ayden Batchelor, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Benton Central will head out to face off against Hamilton Heights at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Huskies have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.5 runs per game on average), something the Bison will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Fountain Central, they are taking a road trip to take on Parke Heritage at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Wolves have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.05 runs per game on average), something the Mustangs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
