The Santana Sultans are taking a road trip to take on the San Marcos Knights at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Santana saw some tournament action on Monday. They walked away with a 6-3 win over Mission Vista.
Ashlyn Darrow made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaylee Lindahl, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two runs. Brianna Canty was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two doubles.
San Marcos not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 22, 2024. Everything went their way against Mission Vista as San Marcos made off with a 10-1 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Knights as it put an end to their five-game losing streak dating back to last season.
San Marcos also got a great performance from Avery Hughes as she struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). Those ten strikeouts gave Hughes a new career-high.
At the plate, Emily Lew was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three RBI, and one run. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in triples. Lily Barstad also deserves some recognition as she scored her first runs of the season.
San Marcos was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
San Marcos' first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Santana, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Santana couldn't quite finish off San Marcos when the teams last played back in March of 2024 and fell 4-2. Can Santana avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
