The Shafter Generals will head out on the road to challenge the Wasco Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Shafter sitting on three straight victories and Wasco on eight.
On Thursday, Shafter got the win against Delano by a conclusive 8-1. The result was nothing new for the Generals, who have now won 12 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Victoria Rodriguez was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Kamryn Munoz also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Shafter hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 23 consecutive matches.
Wasco came out on top against Chavez on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run first inning. The Tigers took their contest against the Titans 7-2.
Cedes Saldana spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 18 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Emma Gomez, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Sienna Lugo was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run.
Wasco's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-7-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Shafter, their record now sits at 17-6-2.
Both Shafter and Wasco just can't seem to miss. The Generals have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.2 hits per game. However, it's not like Wasco struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
