The South Effingham Mustangs were the  72-40 winner over the Bryan County Redskins when they last played one another  back in November of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. South Effingham suffered a  tough 69-46 loss at the hands of Bryan County  on Saturday. While losing is never fun, South Effingham can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage  in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings  (they are ranked 321st, while Bryan County is ranked 65th).
 When it comes to explaining why South Effingham lost, one person who can't be blamed is  Elena Hairston. Despite the final result, she  scored 16 points along with 8  rebounds. Hairston scored a full 34.8% of South Effingham's points, the fourth time in a row she's  earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was  Justine Nevels, who  scored 6 points along with 6  rebounds.
 South Effingham bumped their record down to 2-6 with that  loss, which was their third straight  at home. As for Bryan County, the  win for they keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.
 South Effingham will look to defend their home court  on Tuesday against Johnson at 6:00  p.m. As for Bryan County, they will head out on the road to face off against Claxton at 6:00  p.m.  on Tuesday. Claxton comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
