Softball Recap: Lower Moreland Has No Trouble Against Cheltenham

Lower Moreland had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Cheltenham Panthers. That looming 13-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Lions yet this season.

Maddie Menchhofer and Izzy O'Brien were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Menchhofer struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, O'Brien pitched two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Menchhofer has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. At bat, Menchhofer went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while O'Brien went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that O'Brien has hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Molly Weber, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Jordyn MacPhee also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Lower Moreland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Lower Moreland's record is now 5-8. As for Cheltenham, they dropped their record down to 1-7 with the loss, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season.
