Baseball Recap: Tooele's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Tooele had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 5-2 win over the Cottonwood Colts on Friday. This was a revenge game for the Buffaloes: when they faced off against the Colts last Wednesday, they had to take a 11-10 defeat.

Hunter Fawson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Tooele is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 0-8 otherwise. Fawson was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Fawson wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gabe Sutherland, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Sutherland also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Another was Luis Garcia, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Tooele's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-9. As for Cottonwood, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 7-1.

Coming up, Tooele will square off against Grantsville at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Grantsville will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last. As for Cottonwood, they will challenge Stansbury at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Cottonwood will need to watch out since Stansbury has now posted at least ten runs in their last three contests.
