This season hasn't been kind to The Garinger Wildcats, who are still winless after their ninth contest. They were dealt a 77-12 defeat at the hands of Providence on Friday. Garinger was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 56-12.
Jackson Debe had an outrageously good game for Providence as he threw for 313 yards and seven touchdowns while completing 73.7% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Otavio Oliveira, who picked up 208 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Garinger's loss was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-9. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 5.0 points per game. As for Providence, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Garinger will face off against Rocky River at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Rocky River comes in on a streak of failing to score more than seven points in their last four games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Providence, they will head out on the road to face off against East Mecklenburg at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. East Mecklenburg will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 314th, while Providence is ranked 90th).
