Make it 14 blowout wins for the McDowell Titans this season. They breezed by Erwin on the road to the tune of 63-28 on Wednesday. Given McDowell's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 66th, while the Warriors are ranked 218th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
McDowell's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sage Young led the charge by scoring 14 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Young has scored all season. Kensly Stewart was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
McDowell's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.7 points per game. As for Erwin, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-9.
McDowell will head out on the road to challenge the Black Hawks at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully North Buncombe focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 31 last Tuesday. As for Erwin, they and the Rockets will face off at 6:30 p.m. on February 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
