Basketball Game Preview: St. John Woodchucks vs. New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets

St. John hasn't had much luck against New Rockford-Sheyenne recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The St. John Woodchucks will challenge the New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets at 7:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

St. John is headed into Tuesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Tuesday. They took a 74-59 bruising from Bottineau. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game two weeks ago (57), the Woodchucks still had to take the loss.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Madden Parisien, who went 6 for 12 on his way to 16 points. He is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played dating back to last season. Ashton Parisien was another key player, putting up 17 points.

Even though they lost, St. John was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, New Rockford-Sheyenne took their game on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 79-44 win over Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter. That looming 79-44 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Rockets yet this season.

St. John's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for New Rockford-Sheyenne, their victory bumped their record up to 7-1.

Things could have been worse for St. John, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 61-47 loss to New Rockford-Sheyenne when the teams last played back in January of 2024. Can St. John avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
