Softball Recap: Artesia Has No Trouble Against Portales

While Artesia put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Portales. The Bulldogs put the hurt on the Rams with a sharp 9-0 win. Considering the Bulldogs have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Katrin Marquez made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over 6.2 innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, Brooklyn Fuentes was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Jenna Whitmire was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

Artesia was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .517. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for Artesia and bumps their season record up to 14-7. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 14-6 Lovington (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 56.4% over those games). As for Portales, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-12.

Artesia has already played their next contest, a 7-0 win against Goddard on the 25th. As for Portales, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 16-1 loss against Lovington on the 25th.
