3A Region 2 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Aberdeen was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in 3A Region 2. Earlier in the week, the Bulldogs triumphed over Louisville 32-21.
Water Valley took down George 61-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Kirkland Horton in the win.
South Pontotoc's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Alex Pannell threw for 66 yards and Evan Kidd had 41 yards receiving. On the ground Keith Flowers chipped in 38 yards. Davius Wilson helped South Pontotoc's passing attack out by catching two balls for 23 yards.
The Cougars' Pannell and Wilson have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Pannell has thrown for 777 yards this season, while Wilson has 15 catches for 316 yards. Mooreville's Josh Johnson leads the league in rushing yards with 512.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Blue Devils take on the Troopers. At the moment, Water Valley is in first, while Mooreville is in third.
There should be lots of points scored when Brad Embry's team and Kevin Austin's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Blue Devils comes in having scored 227 this season, while the Troopers have scored 121. Water Valley scored 61 points last week as it topped the Jaguars.
The Blue Devils led 3A Region 2 in scoring this week after putting up 61 points on George. Horton in the win.
