The Alhambra Moors will head out on the road to take on the Mark Keppel Aztecs at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Alhambra is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past San Gabriel 16-2 on Tuesday. The Moors not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 21, 2024.
Alhambra got a great performance from Jayla Wagner as she pitched 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits.
On the hitting side, Alyssa Salazar was a standout: she scored two runs while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Evelyn Estrada was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.
Alhambra kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in six consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Mark Keppel got the win against Bell Gardens on Tuesday by a conclusive 9-2. The victory continues a trend for the Aztecs in their matchups with the Lancers: they've now won six in a row.
Robyn Guitron was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. Guitron was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Sarah Lucero was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Another player making a difference was Avigail Navarro, who scored two runs while going 4-for-5.
Alhambra moved to 3-11 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for Mark Keppel, their record now sits at 9-3.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Alhambra hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .328. However, it's not like Mark Keppel struggles in that department as they've averaged .397. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Alhambra suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Mark Keppel in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Moors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
