The Hillsborough Terriers will head out on the road to challenge the Alonso Ravens at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Hillsborough is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Alonso in Florida (Hillsborough is ranked 190th, while Alonso is ranked 518th).
Hillsborough suffered their closest loss yet this season on Friday. They fell just short of Armwood by a score of 53-50.
Despite the loss, Hillsborough had strong showings from Deana Epps, who scored 18 points, and Jojo Cruz-Smartt, who scored 15 points.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Alonso beat Jefferson 47-43 on Friday. The victory was just what Alonso needed coming off of a 84-2 defeat in their prior game.
Patty Kilkelly was the offensive standout of the game as she scored 18 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Olivia Price, who scored ten points.
Hillsborough's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Alonso, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-11.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Hillsborough hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 58.3 points per game. It's a different story for Alonso, though, as they've been averaging only 20.9 points per game. The only thing between Hillsborough and another offensive beatdown is Alonso. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Hillsborough strolled past Alonso in their previous meeting back in January of 2021 by a score of 56-41. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Alonso's Lillian Barnes, who scored 25 points along with seven rebounds and four blocks. Now that she won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be that much easier for Hillsborough to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
