The Brooklyn Hurricanes's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight loss. They took a 44-29 bruising from Wickliffe. Brooklyn was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Wickliffe apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.
When it comes to explaining why Brooklyn lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ashlyn Dyson. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 17 points and 15 rebounds. The contest was Dyson's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Natalie Nieves, who scored seven points along with six rebounds.
Brooklyn's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 1-6. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.0 points per game. As for Wickliffe, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Brooklyn will finish 2023 at home by hosting Holy Name at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Holy Name focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 on Wednesday. Wickliffe will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on John Adams at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2024.
