Basketball Recap: Hathaway Brown Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Jane Kennedy and Caroline Morgan

Hathaway Brown lost against Austintown-Fitch back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Hathaway Brown Blazers fell 39-31 to the Austintown-Fitch Falcons. While losing is never fun, the Blazers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 403rd, while the Falcons are ranked 133rd).

Despite the loss, Hathaway Brown had strong showings from Caroline Morgan, who posted ten points along with six boards and four steals, and Jane Kennedy, who put up seven points in addition to 14 boards and four steals. Kennedy has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played.

Hathaway Brown has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season. As for Austintown-Fitch, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-2.

Hathaway Brown didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 42-31 defeat against Cornerstone Christian on the 23rd. Austintown-Fitch and Perry will round out the year against one another at at 1:45 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Austintown-Fitch has won four straight at home dating back to last season, while Perry won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
