Nimitz extended their losing streak to five on Wednesday, dropping them down to 6-15. They came up short against the Eisenhower Eagles, falling 9-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-5 on Tuesday.
Andreus Ross was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Matthew Maple, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
As for Eisenhower, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-17. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory they have posted against Nimitz since March 19, 2024.
On Eisenhower's side, Denny Benavides made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Benavides a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Jeremy Ortiz looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Eisenhower is 2-1 when Ortiz allows two or fewer hits, but 6-16 otherwise.
Back at the plate, Isaiah Patel and Jay'Markus Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Patel went 3-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base, while Smith went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits Smith has posted since back in March.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Nimitz is set to challenge their familiar foe Spring at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Eisenhower will square off against rival Aldine at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
