The Cimarron-Memorial Spartans came tearing into Tuesday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past Chaparral with points to spare, taking the game 65-51. That's another feather in the cap for Cimarron-Memorial, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Cimarron-Memorial got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Josiah Arellano out in front who scored 15 points along with six rebounds. Christian Cardona was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven steals and five assists.
When it comes to explaining why Chaparral lost, one person who can't be blamed is Qualib Ghallab. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 22 points and 17 rebounds. Ghallab is crushing the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Bard, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Chaparral smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. This was only their 14th loss (out of 22 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Cimarron-Memorial has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season. As for Chaparral, they dropped their record down to 8-17 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cimarron-Memorial will take on Clark at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Clark has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 555 points over their last eight matchups. As for Chaparral, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Eldorado at 6:30 p.m. on February 8th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Nevada (Chaparral is ranked 58th, while Eldorado is ranked 67th).
