The Altha Wildcats will square off against the Chiles Timberwolves at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Altha sitting on six straight victories and Chiles on seven.
Altha will bounce into Friday's matchup after beating Wewahitchka, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Wildcats sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over the Gators on Thursday. That's two games straight that the Wildcats have won by just one run.
Hope Tanner was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Tanner was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.
Tanner wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Carrington Scott, who went 1-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That double was Scott's first of the season.
Meanwhile, Chiles never let their opponents score on Thursday. Everything went their way against Lincoln as they made off with a 10-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Timberwolves, who have now won 13 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Chiles got a massive performance out of Adelyn Matthews, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. What's more, Matthews posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Kaitlyn Fagan was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3.
Chiles always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .560. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lincoln only posted an OBP of .318.
Chiles' win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Altha, their record now sits at 10-5.
Altha might still be hurting after the 16-1 loss they got from Chiles in their previous matchup back in April of 2022. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
