The Summit Spartans will challenge the Page Patriots at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games Summit has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Summit fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Mount Juliet on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Golden Bears by a score of 10-9. That's two games in a row now that the Spartans have lost by just one run.
Summit got a big performance out of Tarek Scherr, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Paityn Robertson was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, Page had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Thursday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Bruins. Those three runs were actually the fewest the Patriots have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Ashley Johnson spent all ten innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up seven Ks. Those seven strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
On the hitting side, Adriana Callahan was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two stolen bases.
Page's victory bumped their record up to 11-1. As for Summit, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-11.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Summit hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .363. However, it's not like Page struggles in that department as they've averaged .338. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Summit couldn't quite finish off Page when the teams last played back in March and fell 9-7. Will the Spartans have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
