This season hasn't been kind to the Fruitdale Pirates, who are still winless after their eighth contest. They had to suffer through a rough 71-34 loss at the hands of Chickasaw. While losing is never fun, Fruitdale can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 428th, while Chickasaw is ranked 209th).
Chickasaw's win on Wednesday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from JaVon Mose, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. Those 13 rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Marvin Brooks was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds.
Fruitdale bumped their record down to 0-8 with that defeat, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Chickasaw, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fruitdale will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Leroy at 5:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024. Hopefully Leroy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Tuesday. Chickasaw will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Bryant at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Bryant has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 16.
