After losing to the Boonville Pioneers the last time they met, the Evansville Memorial Tigers decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Evansville Memorial enjoyed a cozy 62-46 win over Boonville on Saturday. Given Evansville Memorial's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 48th, while Boonville is ranked 279th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Brady Kandul was a one-man wrecking crew for Evansville Memorial as he scored 16 points along with two steals. That's the first time this season that Kandul grabbed two or more steals. Another player making a difference was Luke Ellspermann, who scored four points along with six assists and five steals.
Evansville Memorial is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. As for Boonville, they dropped their record down to 4-13 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road.
Evansville Memorial and Evansville Reitz will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. As for Boonville, they will head out on the road to challenge Heritage Hills at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Heritage Hills knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 11 games -- so hopefully Boonville likes a good challenge.
